Merumaya is a brand I’ve wanted to dabble more into since I fell in love with their Mud Marvels Mask, and was beyond excited to receive one of their new skincare heroes that will launch this Friday (20th January). The Retinol Resurfacing Treatment* instantly had me curious as retinol skincare products have been popping up more and more in the blogging world and I definitely needed to give my skin some TLC after the festive season! I do have to warn you, things are about to get very technical. I didn’t know the first thing about retinol before trying this treatment so I wanted to get a bit more clued up on what I was about to put on my face..
Retinol (also known as Vitamin A) can, in stronger doses, cause skin irritation and encourage ache flare ups, but it’s also such an effective ingredient for skincare as it boosts cell turnover, resulting in skin that looks younger, brighter and a lot clearer. To combat the nasty side effects of retinol, Merumaya have formulated this treatment with Vitamin A Palmitate, a stabalised version of retinol that’s much kinder to skin. As well as being great for reducing the appearance of aging, Vitamin A also acts as an acne treatment due to its sebum regulating properties, as well as reducing the appearance of scarring.
I worried that a retinol treatment might strip my skin of too much moisture, especially at this time of year when a lot of people are suffering from drier skin, but there’s no need to panic as this treatment also includes hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid helps the skin retain moisture, meaning it provides the perfect balance for skin while this treatment gets to work. Those with sensitive skin can let out a sign of relief too, as the retinol treatment contains an active ingredient from Boerhavia Diffusa Root that soothes and softens the skin.
I’ve been using the Retinol Resurfacing Treatment for just over a week now and have seen a considerable difference in the appearance of my skin. My once dull and dry looking skin has been given a new lease of life as it looks much brighter, healthier and clearer, and it’s all down to this wonderful cream. I apply 2 pumps of the treatment all over my face every night before bed and couldn’t be happier with the results, especially when my makeup applies much easier and looks more flawless each morning. It may be a bit pricey at £33.50, but I couldn’t recommend it enough as the results make it worth every penny in my opinion!
